A Gentleman's Offer by Emma Orchard

Image
The story has all the elements of a great book—a Regency-era romance about an arranged marriage with a twin twist—but I couldn't get into it. Although the premise is quite interesting, it fell flat for me. Also, the writing style is not a good fit for me.      rating ❤❤ cover ❤❤ Goodreads  ||  Amazon happy reading, anie

Booked for Summer by Kathryn Freeman

Image
Jade is excited to start her summer job of managing a bookstore on Nantucket Island. For the next three months she will be surrounded by books and perfect scenery. On the drive there she runs into Liam, a rich resort owner, who will soon become her new book.  They have an instant connection, but he is determined to close the shop and she will do anything to keep it open.  I wanted to love the book; from the synopsis, it sounds like a perfect fit for me. However, I couldn't get into it. The dialogue was... let's just say not it, and I couldn't like any of the characters.  He was arrogant and obnoxious and she was over the top.  Then there is the plot... why would she try so hard for a job she had for a day?    rating ❤❤ cover ❤❤❤ Goodreads  ||  Amazon happy reading, anie

Digging Dr. Jones by Olivia Jackson

Image
Adriana is not in a good place, single with an almost failing business, she went on a vacation with her brother, who is also her best friend.  One mistaken delivery later, she is stuck with a bracelet she can't take off, and is asked on an adventure of a lifetime with a hot Indiana Jones-like scientist.  She reluctantly agrees to go, especially since there is payment involved and she desperately needs money... but all that running around, solving puzzles together and constant danger pulls them together. Andrew desperately needs the bracelet and the only way to get it is to take the girl wearing it with him... but his mission is a dangerous one, without a snarky sidekick, and her brother. They have mad chemistry and the romance that develops is just the cutest (there are lots of spicy moments too :)). I love the adventure part the most, it was like reading an Indiana Jones novel, but better.  Highly recommend it to anyone who likes spicy romance with a side of adventure. :...

Here Comes Trouble by Christy McKellen

Jess is a journalist about to lose her job. She loves what she does, but her writing is not what it could be. As a last chance, she takes on interviewing an artist, who is notorious for not being keen on the media.  Xander is an artist, who has a bad reputation. Some of it is warranted, some not, but Jess can't afford to give up now.  He has struggled with his art for a long time, but being close to her, makes him want to work again. So they make a deal. He agrees to answer questions if she agrees to pose for him.  I wanted to love the story, it has all of the right ingredients,  but I just couldn't. There is very little chemistry between them, there is no tension or anticipation. Everything happens and unfolds too fast. The dialogs were not it... and some scenes were hard to read. 3 stars for what it could have been.  rating ❤❤❤ cover ❤❤❤❤ Goodreads  ||  Amazon happy reading, anie

Love to Hate You by Marina Adait

Image
The cutest story! You've got mail, but in book form (so it's even better). Summer is all about romance. She runs a romance book store, looks for a perfect meet-cute, and wants to find her HEA. Her life is not all pink and fluttery thought. She has a series of meet-uglies, and the big-box bookstore moves next door, threatening all that she built, and on top of that thing with her twin, her other half and a bit tense. She hates that book store and most of all she hates its owner, Wes. They have an epic prank war, that reaches its peak when her sister unexpectedly brings a boyfriend she never even heard of to a family vacation. And he comes with his brother, who happens to be Wes.  Forced to share a room and spend time together, their chemistry becomes undeniable. They stick together, through family drama and get really, really, close.  But they still have an epic battle to finish.  It's a true enemy to lovers' romance, with so much tension that is sure to make your heart ...

Still the One by Aimee Brown

Eve and Foster had a whirlwind romance, that turned sour soon. It's been five years, and they haven't seen each other since she left. Foster does stunts on a bike and his last performance didn't go as planned, with him in critical condition. Eve is now a nurse at the same hospital, he is brought to. With her still his emergency contact, she can't just leave him be and stays by his side, conveniently leaving out the "divorced part" when everyone asks her how they know each other. :) It's the sweetest second chance romance. As Foster recovers you can see them falling back in love. The story is intertwined with past snippets that explain how they got to where they are now. I loved the first half, but towards the end, I kind of lost interest, I felt it went in circles too much. It's a lovely story, but maybe not the best fit for me. rating ❤❤❤ cover ❤❤❤❤ Goodreads  ||  Amazon happy reading, anie

Good Girl Complex by Elle Kennedy

Image
rating ❤❤❤ cover ❤❤❤❤❤ Mac came to the beach town to start college. She is older than most freshmen because she took a gap year. It took a lot of convincing to get her parents on board, but part of the deal was to go to the college here. She used that year to build up her business. Now she is in the same school as her long-time boyfriend, for the first time in a long time. And she is getting bored. Mackenzie always does what she is supposed to. She dates the right guy and behaves the right way, but that isn't here. She is full of spark, that she constantly squashes down. Cooper lost one of his jobs, because of her jerk boyfriend, so he and his friends make a plan. He will seduce her and get back at him that way. But in the process of getting her, he falls for her. She is so much more than just a rich princess. There is an insane amount of sparks between them, but there are also a lot of secrets between the two of them that threaten to break them apart. The story is so addicting it...

You've Got Chain Mail by Sam Parks

❤❤❤❤ Morgan has been feeling lonely. Since her best friend moved away and isn't really answering her calls and texts, she is on her own a lot. She wants to be more adventurous but doesn't really know how to do that.  She started going on weekly D&D games with a group of people who are quickly becoming her friends. They even agree to go to the Renaissance Fair in the States together. Jack's life is very carefully planned out. There is no room for romance or change. After his bad breakup, he gave up on that and kind of dedicated his life to just staying as it is. As he takes Morgan out on their little adventures, they get closer and closer, but he is nowhere near that and the change she is about to bring into his life. He makes her more adventurous and she forces him to face his emotions-a perfect match... They make each other better, but they both come with baggage that threatens to keep them apart. Is such a sweet story, of letting go, of taking a chance and letting you...

Slap Shot by Kat Mizera (Lauderdale Knights #1)

Love a good sports romance, but this one didn't hit the spot. She is from a big Italian family and her family is pressuring her into all sorts of things she doesn't want, from other careers to relationships. When she wakes up getting hit with a hockey put and has temporary amnesia, it kind of feels like a fresh start. Not to mention that the hot hockey player who hit her is there to console her. She starts to stand up to her family, break up with her fiance, and start o date a hockey player, but is met with resistance left and right. Vaughn is starting fresh in Florida. As a single hockey player, he is all about sleeping around until he meets the girl she hit with a puck. She is in a relationship and her life seems to be beyond complicated, but he can't stay away. Something is brewing between them, but they both have baggage from the past, that could stand to push them apart. I like the storyline but didn't like the characters, I didn't feel that much spark between ...

Well Met by Jen Deluca (Well Met #1)

Emily came to the small town to help her sister who was in a car accident and her daughter. It gave her time to recover from a bad breakup. She gave up college and worked full time to support her bf, while he finished up law school. Now that it was supposed to be her turn, he dumped her. Her self-confidence is broken and she is happy to be somewhere to lick her wound. It's also nice to get close to her sister and niece. Because they have quite an age gap they never really got that close. There is a Renaissance fair in town, called Faire, which is a town tradition and kind of big deal. Her niece wants to sign up but needs an adult volunteer, so Emily gets roped into doing it. There is a hot pirate she flirts with, but the guy wearing the costume and she doesn't get along all that well. They seem to start out on the wrong foot and always argue, but when they get in a costume, there is none of that and a whole lot of flirting going on. They started out as enemies but ended up as l...

The Fallback by Eleanor Goyner

Image
They have been best friends since college. She came to town to work in the lab and she needed a place to stay. He needed a roommate fast. The first time they met, they instantly clicked together and have been best friends and secretly in love with each other since then. He has a very unrealistic view of dating and is always with someone, but it never works out. She gave up on dating altogether. Then he comes up with a crazy idea. They both have to make an effort to date and if they don't find anyone by the time of the Christmas office party, they will get a family together. The change shakes up their relationship at its core. The more they look around the more obvious it becomes that what they are looking at is at their noses. But the path from best friends to HEA is anything but straightforward. I liked the characters, the storyline (it's one of my favorite tropes), and the ending... but I had the hardest time connecting to the writing. ❤ ❤ ❤ book info Published April 11, 2024...

Naomi and Luca grew up on opposite sides of the country. In the 5th grade, they became pen pals for a school assignment and never stopped writing to each other, until 2 years ago, when the letters stopped. But the letters weren't sweet or heartfelt, they were filled with hate and mean words, and they always tried to outdo each other in their insults. Slowly, over time, underneath all those jabs, a friendship developed. Naomi works at the TV station as a weathergirl. And then she received a new letter at work, from Luca, but without his new address. She and her friend go on a whole adventure to find him, flying across the country, and finding more about his life along the way. At the same time, the cute neighbour asks her out and they start to date. There is this insane chemistry between them, but her heart is torn between two guys. It's so so good! I couldn't put it down.
