April wrap-up

I've always watch this kind of videos on BookTube, so I though I would made one for my blog. :) I clump them together, by the rating.  First are 5 star books first, the ones I love the most and made an impact on me, then 4 star books, these are the books that are great, but have something little bit missing. Next  3 star books, these are OK. 2 star book I didn't like and 1 star I really didn't like. Books in each bundle I kind of like the same amount. :)  And here it is, the book I have read this month. 💚 💚 💚 💚 💚  1. The Witches of the Glass Castle by Lepore Gabriella 2. After the Ending by Lindsey Pogue 3. Configured by Jenneta Penner 4. Dream Me by Kathryn Berla 💚 💚 💚 💚  5. Book of Lies by Teri Terry 6. Breakwater by Catherine Jones Payne

Alone by Robert J. Crane

Image
Rating: 💚  💚  💚 Author: Robert J. Crane Title: Alone Series: The Girl in the Box #1 Published: April 2012 Number of pages: 166 Goodreads link:   Alone Genre: ya, urban fantasy, paranormal Alone is the first book in The Girl in the Box series. It features Sienna Neaslon, 17 year old girl, that was locked in her home for the past 12 years by her mother. Few days after her mom disappears, two guy come barging in, shooting her and she barely escapes with help of stranger. They go to the mall, where she is attacked by the huge beast like guy Wolfe and saved by the same guys that shoot her in the first place. She is then taken to the Directorate, weird agency that deals with people that have special powers. Apparently she is really strong meta human (people with special powers). It is really quick read, more of a guilty pleasure book for me. I wished the story and the characters were a bit more developed and that Sienna wasn't such an unlikable character, I mean there

The Breeders by Katie French

Image
Rating: 💚 💚 💚 Author: Katie French Title: The Breeders Series: Breeders #1 Number of pages: 276 Published: July 2012 Goodreads link: The Breeders Genre: dystopia, ya, fantasy, fiction, romance This is really one terrifying and sad world. Women are hunted and sold to Breeders, where they are used just to give birth to babies. Riley is one of the few baby girls born to freedom. Her mother has escaped Breeders when she was young. The Breeders control the world basically. She lives with her mother, aunt, step father and younger brother outside of town, to avoid detection. One night her stepfather is killed, mother and aunt taken, she and her brother are saved by sheriff son. She makes it her goal to save them.  The world the author created is really sad and horrible. What I have the problem with most is the tone of the book. Everything is really sad and depressing, there is no redeeming qualities. No hope for a better future. I also dislike a bit the main character, s

Witches of the Glass Castle by Gabriella Lepore

Rating: 💚 💚 💚 💚 💚 Author: Gabriella Lepore Title: Witches of the Glass Castle Series: The Witches of the Glass Castle #1 Published: March 2017 (first September 2011) Goodreads link:  Witches of the Glass Castle Genre : fantasy, paranormal, magic, romance, ya Received from Oftomes publishing.   I went into it not really expecting much and I was pleasantly surprised. I really like books about magic, especially when they are put in urban-fantasy-ish setting. Book follows Mia and Dino, brother and sister. After accident (witch I want to know more about), they gain powers. Their mother and aunt (they never meet their father) take them to the Glass Castle for the summer to develop and understand their powers. I love the dynamics of their relationship, they go from dislike, hate back to love. I also really like development of their characters. Dino struggles with his powers, with controlling and understanding them and pushes Mia away in the process. He manages to find

Book of Lies by Teri Terry

Image
Rating: 💚 💚 💚 💚  Author : Teri Terry Title: Book of Lies Series: standalone Number of pages: 352 Published: March 2016 Goodreads link:   Book of Lies Genre: ya, fantasy, paranormal, mystery Received from NetGalley. It's like Parent trap mixed with spookiest Stephen King books. More horror then mystery.  It is story about twin sister that meet at mother funeral, the grew up in very different environment. The sister that didn't live with her mother, decides to stay few days, to get her sister. Narrator switches from Piper to Quinn, not revealing everything.  It is the main charm of the book, it gets freakier chapter after chapter.  Story is also really gripping, you just have to know what happens next. The ending is a bit disturbing, though. Highly recommend to anyone who loves spooky stories. Happy reading! Anie

The Legacy of the Key by S. L. Morgan

Image
Rating: 💚 💚 💚 Author: S. L. Morgan Title: The Legacy of the Key Series: Ancient Guardians #1 Number of pages: 374 Goodreads link:  The Legacy of the Key Published: December 2012 Genre: fantasy, romance, ya, fiction, sci-fi First lets start with the good stuff. :) I really like sci-fi aspect of it, the world described and the endless possibility streaming from it. It is really amazing. I love the story line it was was really gripping from the get go. But I have say I have problem with Reece, I wish she wasn't so passive. She barely react to the thing going on around here. She is suppose to be strong independent woman, collage student, but she doesn't fight what is happening around her, or question it, she just accept it. Best part of the book for me was, when she told off Simone, I really like that Reece. If she was more of a fighter, the book would be a lot better, more bad ass. That being said, it is not bad book at all. Rather interesting story. Happy readin

The Fireproof Girl by Loretta Lost

Image
Rating:  ðŸ’š 💚 💚 Author: Loretta Lost Title: The Fireproof Girl Series: Sophie Shields #1 Published:  September 2016 Goodreads link:   The Fireproof Girl Genre: mystery, romance, thriller Received from NetGalley I should have read the blurb before reading it. I went into it purely based on cover and title, thinking it was paranormal story and was a bit disappointed. About half was into it, when nothing paranormal pop up, I went to Goodreads page to read what it is about.  That being said, it is actually really interesting story, timeline jumps from youth to present, between two lead characters. And just when you think you know what is going on, something even friekier happens. The book is extremely gripping from the get go, you just have to know what happens on the next page. It is also very fast read, but I have to say, it is not for the faint hearted. There is a lot ob abuse, molestation, emotion instability and even hint of split personalities. I would make a amazin

Returning for Valentine's by Victoria Pinder

Image
Rating: 💚 💚  Title:   Returning for Valentine's Author:   Victoria Pinder Published:  December 2012 Number of pages:  50 Goodreads link:  Returning for Valentine's Genre:  romance Received from Author. Short story of Beth, who was in love with her best friend. Nathan was kind of a player. She was convinced he could never fell the same for her. After they spent the night together, she never hears from him for about a year. He looks her up and tries to get together.  If you love romance, then you will probably love the story.  For me it was to short and choppy. Didn't have that flow, build up or any kind of development. Maybe it's just that I am not into romance books.  Happy reading! Anie

After the Ending by Lindsey Pogue and Lindsey Fairleigh

Image
Rating: 💚 💚 💚 💚 💚 Authors:  Lindsey Pogue and Lindsey Fairleigh Title: After the ending Series: The Ending #1 Published: February 2013 Number of pages: 478 Goodreads link:  After the Ending Genre : sci-fi, post apocalyptic, fantasy, fiction, apocalypse, dystopia, romance, paranormal OMG, I love this book. :) It is scary AF. It is post-apocalyptic story, but unlike many other similar book, you get to witness apocalypse, as it is happening. It start with virus spreading over country, a lot of people getting sick, with flu like symptoms and it end with almost all of the people dying. The ones that survive, either crazy or start to develop new abilities.  What it is so scary, it's that it could really happen, like tomorrow. Symptoms, spreading, people reacting, this is how people would really react. Just amazing. :) We read from 2 perspectives, 2 best friends on opposite sites of country trying to reach each other, writing e-mail to each other. I just love it

Starbound by J. L. Weil

Image
Rating: 💚 💚 💚 💚 Author: J. L. Weil Title: Starbound Series: Standalone Published: March 2014 Goodreads link:   Starbound Genre: paranormal romance, ya, magic, paranormal, fantasy One of the lovelies stories. It just makes me sigh thinking about it.  Story follows Katia and Seth. The just to be friends, when they were little, but they had to sneak around, because their families hatted each other. In junior high they had falling out and are on each other throat ever since.  Things start to change when one night Katia breaks up with her boyfriend and walks home alone from the party. Seth is just driving by and pick her up.  If I said any more it would spoil the story. It is just the prettiest story ever. Like Romeo and Juliet, with happy ending. Highly recommend. Happy reading! Anie

Descent by Katie O'Sullivan

Image
Rating: 💚 💚 💚 💚 Author: Katie O'Sullivan Title: Descent Series: Son of a Mermaid #1 Number of pages: 319 Goodreads link:   Descent Genre: paranormal, ya, fantasy, fiction, mermaids Received from NetGalley. Descent is a really good story about mermaids. I can not believe there is a good YA book featuring mermaids. I read just few books with mermaids in it, and the were all... bad. It is hard to accurately portray something, that is so far from our everyday experience. And to make it believable, that says something about the writer.  I really love the plot setting, the mermaids, the whole world portayed here. This is story about Shea, who in the mist of family tragedy discovers something incredible. He goes from farm boy, who doesn't know how to swim to being a mermaid (merman ?) with really interesting heritage.  I only wish the book was a bit longer, so we would get a chance to have a bit more character development.  Happy reading! Ani

The Faerie Guardian by Rachel Morgan

Image
Rating: 💚 ðŸ’š ðŸ’š ðŸ’š Author: Rachel Morgan Title: The Faerie Guardian Series: Creepy Hollow #1 Number of pages: 300 Published: April 2012 Goodreads link:   The Faerie Guardian Genre: ya, paranormal, fae, romance, fantasy, fiction I love Fae in any shape and form, so this book is definitely a win for me. Is a story of Violet Fairdale, who is training to be a guardian for years. She is about to graduate top of her class, when simple job in human realm goes sideways. I love the faerie realm, the author took classical approach to faeries and made it her own. Thing are not what they seem. I especially love the relationship. One felt kind of insta-loveish, and I love who that turned out. I was actually rooting for the other guy (I was right:D). I read it really fast, it is really gripping and fast paced. My only problem. It wasn't memorable enough. I'm writing this review next day and I have trouble remembering what happens. Happy reading! Anie.

Rite of Rejection by Sarah Negovetich

Image
Rating: 💚 💚 💚 Title: Rite of Rejection Author: Sarah Negovetich Series: Acceptance #1 Number of pages: 320 Published: December 2014 Goodreads link:   Rite of Rejection Genre: dystopia, fantasy, fiction, ya, romance I have very mixed felling about this story. One the plus site, I love the dystopian world. The future of people is determent by the Machine. At the special ceremony the Machine determines if you are good or bad for the society. If you are bad you are sent to the PIT, like a jail/concentration camp of sort. Lead character Rebecca always did the right thing, followed rules, so she is devastated when Machine determines that she is bad. In time she finds allies, that become friends, she even find love and most importantly through all the hard ship she finds herself.  Sound great, right? For me something was missing. That chemistry or magic, that you have with the book. The felling, when book pulls you in the story, change your live or perspective a bit, stay wit

Configured by Jenetta Penner

Rating:   💚  💚  💚  💚  💚 Author: Jenetta Penner Title: Configured Series: Configured #1 Number of pages: 434 Published: October 2016 Goodreads link:  Configured Genre: sci-fi, dystopia, fiction, fantasy I reviewed and Advance Readers Copy of this book It's like really good sci-fi mixed with dystopia. I love the world this was set in. It is put in future, where all people lives are controlled. The system almost eliminated crime, but also put immerse control over people.  Based on intelligence level, newborns are place with proper parent. And that is not it, spouses, jobs, education. vaccination, all is in the hand of one man, claiming to work for the best of people.  The world that the author created, is very realistic in a way. I love the writing style, the book pulls you in from the first page.  We follow the life of  Avlyn, who is just finished with school and has to move out and start to work. She is faced with challenges of becoming an adult and at the same
