The story is set in the future, where everyone is playing an immersive virtual game. The MC is not the best player, but he is very persistent. He doesn't have the best luck and tends to make the wrong decisions. I liked the art and the idea behind the story but found it very hard to follow. When Oceans Rise is a Little Mermaid retelling, with Filipino elements and alternate universes. It's such a great story, with great writing and interesting characters. It's a great and impactful story full of fantastical elements, but the ones that had the biggest impact on me were the realistic ones. The bad relationship that Malaya finds herself in, the intricacies of gaslighting, the subtleties of gaslighting, and abuse were portrayed in a very, very realistic way. We all feel like we couldn't find ourselves in that situation, it could never happen to me. And when you find yourself in that kind of situation, there is so much shame that you too, feel speechless, like Malaya did. She almost gave up on ever finding someone, but her friends are not letting it go. When they go on a trip  they download a new dating app and insert the opposite of all the things she would like in a guy. The dating app leads her to meet a mysterious stranger. He is younger, but the sparks between them are undeniable. They ran into each other again, but this time at her new job. I first read The Perfectly Fine House and fell in love with it, so I was very excited to dive back into the same world. The Perfectly Fine Neighborhood is a collection of short stories set in the same world. I just flew the book, each story is unique and each one is so good. Stella loves numbers math and economics. But she has a hard time understanding people. She has Asperger's, so dealing with people is not easy for her.  Her mother is pressuring her to get married. But she doesn't have all that much experience in the dating department, so she decides to hire an escort, to practice all that she has to know to have a successful dating experience. Michael does the escorting once a week to help pay for his mother's medical bills. Her offer is too good to refuse. But being with her, makes him feel things too. The more time they spend together, the more it feels not like working but like being in love. It is a very steamy story of an unlikely match, that fits perfectly together.  It was very eye-opening to experience the world from Stella's perspective... Olive is a third-year PhD candidate. She doesn't believe that much in romance, but doesn't want to stand in the way of the friend's happiness. So she comes up with a fake relationship, so her friend will think that she moved on and go out with the guy she likes. The guy she has a fake relationship with is the young professor nobody likes because he can be very tough on everyone.  Every time they spend together, it feels like there is tension between them and the fake starts to feel all too real. It it isn't until the conference from hell, that it all goes wrong, and right at the same time. :) It's steamy, the characters have this intense will they won't the tension, that keeps me flipping pages, and it's all set in a highly competitive academy setting. Charlie is a comedian and Sarah is a widower. they meet at the wedding when friends try to set them up.  But they don't hit it off right away. They find themselves spending a lot more time together, they they wanted, and soon sparks start to fly. I love the storyline! It has all of the elements of a great book! Maggie runs a bookshop in a place with strict rules about what she can or can't sell. But rules are made to be broken, and what is better than a secret book club? But tan she discovers a secret.  It's the kind of book you can't put down. And the romance is so good! Danni hopes to have a fresh start when she moves. She needs to get over a guy she loves because he is engaged to her best friend. That didn't last long when they decided to come along and work with her in the same hospital. She needs to figure out what is more important to her, friendship or the growing attraction. I like the storyline and the backdrop of the hospital made it all that more exciting. But for some reason, I just couldn't get into the story.
