Reading Diary || Week #21

Image
Tuesday I'm having the weirdest reading routine lately. There are days when all I want to do is read and I finish like 2 books or more (this habit particularly hurts my sleep :)), and then there are days that I can't bring myself to read anything. For now, at least I'm reading however weirdy, so I can complain all that much. :)  Anyhow, yesterday I got four new books from the library that I want to start very, very soon. :) First one I'm digging in is by Neil Gaiman. I can't believe I haven't read anything by him yet (I did start American Gods, but couldn+t read past the first chapter). I'm not that far in, but so far, it's great. He has a very distinct writing style. I notice lately that all of my favorites authors have one, a particular way they craft words that somehow makes it more intriguing. Like V. E. Schwab, or Leigh Bardugo. So unique, so incredibly good. :) Maybe that the fact that sets the top apart from the sea of books, unique in storytellin

Hard Sell by Hudson Lin

Danny is a determined, ambitious man with a plan. He is very good at his job, but lately, he's been losing his touch. He is burned out, tired, and beyond ready for an opportunity for a change. He just didn't expect it to come in a form of his best friend younger brother. :)  At the latest company he is trying to buy, he rans into Tobin. 7 years ago they had a one-night stand, and since then they basically didn't have any contact. While Danny is trying to get them to sell, Tobin is there to help them get back on their feet like a consultant.  The chemistry between them is sizzling from the start, but there is still a lot standing between them. I love the premise of the story, best friends brother/sister & second chances are some of my favorite tropes, but for some reason, I had a hard time getting into the story. There were some kind of weird parts and the story is way different than I expected... rating 💜💜💜 cover 💙💙💙 💙 received from Netgalley published May 25th,

11-year-old Macy lived outside of town, with her parents on a small farm. She dreams of one day seeing the world, but the adventure will find her on her own soon. :) A long time ago there were faeries in the land, in a battle people won and they were banished. Macy starts to notice things missing from the house and her mother is suddenly acting very strange. She set off to explore with her new friends and find a bit more than she hoped for.  It's a beautiful story, that I just swooped through. :)  rating 💜💜💜💜 cover 💙💙💙 received from author published March 30th, 2021 genre fae, fantasy, middle grade Amazon  ||  Goodreads happy reading, anie Follow @anie_1027 Anie

I've read some awesome books lately (hope I don't jinx it :) ), you know that kind of books that make stay up way later than is good for you, make you feel aaall the things, that make you fall in love with story or characters, or both... that kind. :) Here are some that I loved lately. The Viscount who loved me by Julia Quinn   I don't know what is it about the Bridgerton series (movie & book) that is so damn addicting. :) The books (I've read 2 so far) are far from perfect, with different issues, but for some reason, once I start, I just can't stop reading. From the first page on, I've transported into regency London. :) I adore all the bickering and courting and high society nonsense. :) Highly recommend the series... <3 Dead Meat: Day 8   I don't like zombies all that much, in fact, they are my least favorite of all paranormal creatures, but there is something about this series. I just adore it. It's about a zombie outbreak (voodoo ritual gone

The King's Decree by Torina Kingsley

The King's Decree is a retelling of The Princess Who Never Laughs. In a kingdom, there is a princess who used to be happy and joyful, but after her 15th birthday, she started to feel... nothing. No joy, no happiness, no sadness. Nothing. she spend last year mostly in bed, numb to the world. Her 16t birthday is approaching and her parents have come up with a plan. They issue a decree, whoever makes her laugh, will be her husband and new ruler of the land. While it's obvious they mean well, instead of helping her, the situation just makes her feel worse.  In the village lives girl Yasmine, with her elderly father. He is getting too old and too tired to work in the fields, so finds her a job at the castle's kitchens. She is not thrilled at first, it will take up most of her time, and she loves running around the village, telling stories to the kids, and meeting friends, but she knows it's the right thing to do. On the first night of her job, she meets a princess. Slowly,

Duke & I by Julia Quinn

In Regency London, it's the start of a new season. For Daphne, Bridgerton is the second season. She is everyone's friend, but no guy finds her desirable. (At least that what she is convinced, I think is more of 3 older brother issues. :)). One night, she runs into Simon, the new Duke of Hastings and the most eligible bachelor in London. They form a pact, he doesn't want to get married, and really, really wants to. They will pretend to court, so Simon will get peace from eager mamas and Daphne will get more suitors. It goes well at first, but love always finds a way. :) The story is far from perfect, there are some cringy scenes (especially that one with Simon and Daphne towards the end). However, despite all of its faults, it's incredibly addicting, I couldn't stop reading and read it in one sitting. If I had the other books in the series, I'm sure I would have read them all and not sleep for a week. :)  It's light and easy to read, a perfect beach read. :)

Westwood University by Alexandria James

This is one addicting book. :) Ezlynn has her life all planned out. She just applied to a grad school and set on studying as hard as she can, so she can cure cancer and no kid has to watch his mother die like she did. She is hyperfocus so much so, that even her past relationship suffered. She logical and doesn't believe in any kind of supernatural. So in a little act of rebellion against the supernatural belief, she rings the forbidden bell and opens the gates of hell. The only good thing that comes out of it, is that she has a new guardian, Phoenix. Their chemistry is on fire and soon they get together against all odds. It's an intense story, full of twists and turns and steamy romance. :)  It's a page-turner, constant suspense, the kind of book that is very hard to put down. :) Only complaint, I had a very hard time like Ezlynn... rating 💜💜💜💜 💜 cover 💙💙💙 💙 💙 received from Silver Dagger Book Tours published May 4th, 2021 by Swoon Reads genre na, paranormal, fanta

Sydney left her more town 8 years ago. Now she is divorced and pregnant and wants to move back to the place she ran off so long ago. She didn't get along with her parents all that well, and she still blames herself for her sister's death, but she determined to raise a child in a small town, surrounded by family.  Rose Bend mayor lost a child and wife a few years ago and never moved on. Seeing Sydney and seeing her pregnant belly bring back all the pain he wanted to push away. Their past keep them from getting together and they both need just a little push. :) It's a light romance story. For the most part, I enjoyed reading it, however, I found it a bit too long, especially in the middle and I had a hard time liking Sydney. rating 💜💜💜 cover 💙💙💙 received from Netgalley series Rose Bend #1 published April 27th, 2021 by HQN Books genre romance, contemporary number of pages 400 Amazon  ||  Goodreads happy reading, anie Follow @anie_1027 Anie

Cracked Casualty by Alexa Whitewolf

In the second book of Lost Royals of Transylvania, we follow the story of Violeta, the sister of the Vampire Royals, who is mysteriously sick. She runs away from her siblings, she just wants to live the life she has left. But going away is hard when her vampire perks keep going away. She gets attacked by a rival clan and is kind of forced to some time with Marcus, a mysterious loner, who lives alone in the woods.  The more time they spend together, the more the attraction grows. But they are both hiding something. It's hard to build trust when you are not totally honest.  They ran into vrykolakas, lead by Dominic who now has a son (I love that I got to see him again:)) and with their help, the mystery of her illness and her family is revealed. It's a heavy and complicated one.  It's a fast-paced, very romantic, and steamy story, with so so many twists and turns. :)  I loved  seeing the secrets revealed and it's all so nicely tied together, with immortals and stuff, I ju

Dead Meat: Day 8 by Nick Clausen

I can't believe it's already day 8. :) I'm kind of happy that there aren't all books out, I don't think I could stop reading after one ends. :) The last one ended on a cliffhanger, this one is no different and I can't wait to see how this will all end. Dan and his new friend made it back to Holger's house, but one little lie and he end up locked in gasoline-filled hallways, while Liz waits outside.  Willaim and his doggy get a lucky break and find a car key. Now they just have to drive through hordes of zombies and to Dan. On the way, they get picked up by a helicopter but received some distressing news. Iver is still stuck in the house and wants to find a way to get to another room with Anges and kid, but with so many zombies around it seems pointless. It's an incredibly fast paces zombie series, each book just gets better, the story developed further, and there is a slight chance for a cure, but now they have a wickedly short deadline. And there seems

It's been a long time since I've read such a good contemporary story. I giggled and cried and felt all the feels... it's just an awesome book! Andi needs money. She wants to go to the same school as her twin, she feels like she needs to keep him in check, but for that, she needs money & fast. She has a small crafting youtube channel, that doesn't bring that much money. Andi and her brother go to the music festival, she hopes she can film some kind of video that will make her go viral, but nothing feels right. The first night, when the brother ditches her, a hot strange help her. It's not until the next morning that she realized that it is Jay Banker. He has the worst prank channel and she hates him and his videos very, very much.  She joins a scavenger hunt, where the winner gets to interview a band, the interview that could blow up her channel. The only downside, Jay and his brother join it too.  Along the way, the more time she spends with him, the more she di

One of Us Is Lying by Karen M. McManus

I liked this a lot more than I expected. It's smart, intense and I didn't know who it was until the end. :) On Monday afternoon, five students have detention. Somehow, someone put the phone in their bags, which got them in trouble. And just 4 of them make it out alive. There was a commotion on the street, the teacher left to investigate and one of the students died in the meantime.  Now the ones left are suspects. The story is told from multiple points of view. It's intense and full of twists and turns. The pressure of Simon's death, and the post that are up after, put a lot of strain on the other four's lives.  It's one of those books that you have to read in one swoop, cause you just have to know who it was and what really happened. :) Highly recommend it! rating 💜💜💜💜 cover 💙💙💙 💙 💙 series One of Us Is Lying #1 published May 30th, 2017 by Delacorte Press genre  ya, mystery, romance number of pages 360 Amazon || Goodreads happy reading, anie Follow @ani
