The Christmas Spirit by Alexandrea Weis

Image
When I first opened up the book, I expected a fluffy Christmas romance. I was dead wrong. :)  The story is still romantic, just in a different way and empowering, magical. It's about healing a broken heart, following your heart, and believing in yourself. Courtney is an accountant, who writes books on the side. She long to write full time and her agent assures her that her next book will get her there, she just has to do about a million changes to her story, till new years. She reluctantly agrees and instead of going to her mom's for Christmas, she rents a remote cabin in the wood. But there is something off about that place. The owner comes around all the time, wearing strange clothes, and the self-appointed cook shares her vies on love, all the time. With a black cat as her only companion, she dives into work. The more of the story she uncovers, the more she is confused. There is something strange about that place. :) In the end, she writes a story, not the one she set to wor

Cami has a really awesome superpower, she can control things, people, just using her voice. But she has a hard time controlling it. So she must enroll in Elmwick academy. Elmwick Academy is a special school, six different types of supernatural are going there, pretending to be human, until they show themself. And then there are hunters, always looking. The story is full of mystery and supernatural beings. It's a truly magical and intriguing story. :) I liked the storyline a lot, but I had a hard getting into the story in the beginning. After about a half, I was fully hooked and enjoyed it till the end. :) rating 💜💜💜💜 cover 💙💙💙 received from Author series Elmwick Academy #1 genre fantasy, paranormal published September 19th, 2020 number of pages 253 Amazon || Goodreads happy reading, anie Follow @anie_1027

Quasi Redux by Christina Bauer

I just love getting back to the world of Myla and Lincoln. Aaand while no book can beat the Angebound -that is sheer perfection, I still like to read all the new mischieve they get into. :) They seem to be a magnet for trouble. Myla and Lincoln are married and have a little toddler, on top of that they are King and Queen of Atrium.  When evil demon Bedlam starts to make trouble, they go investigate and fight him. It's never that easy. He comes to their home and attacks. Myla is a bit over everything, she has a lot on her plate, and it's late and speak the word: "Some days, I wish I weren't the Great Scala" near the wishing fountain. Her wish is granted. She is transported back to purgatory, back to her high school. But it's not the same as she remembers. Because she wasn't the great scala, Armageddon is in charge, she has no igni and Lincoln is married, just not to her. It's a fast pace, easy to read story. And while it took me a little to get into it

Dead Meat: Day 5 by Nick Clausen

I think this is my favorite book in the series. It's in a whole another league compared to the previous ones. :)  I absolutely love the style of the story, it jumps from different characters, creating intensity and thrills, especially when characters from different storyline come together. I have to admit, I wasn't the biggest zombies lover, they just didn't do anything for me, but this series has me converted. It equally parts thrilling, intense, scary, and disturbingly realistic. You can almost taste the tension. It's one of those books you have to read from first to last pages in one go because you can't put it down. There are no buffers, the story picks up right after Day 4 left. The family escapes in the middle of the night, trying to get to the boat and sneak out of the country. They barely make it, not until one of the zombies tries to attack the little boy. Dennis awakes from the nightmare in the bunker. It's just him and his mom for now, but there are

Sisters of the Moon by Alexandrea Weis

The dark and spooky story, that I couldn't put down. From the first page, I fell in love with the atmosphere of the story. Girls who were slaves, not worth anything, and abused in many ways, are brought to the mysterious island, where live nuns of The Sisters of St. Gertrude order. Durra soon finds her place there, but her two new friends have a harder time adjusting. Durra soon discovers, when reading the books, that there is a lot more to the nuns than meet the eye, and that the entire island holds a secret. I love the storytelling, it's monstrous and creepy, but just the right amount. The setting is very well set up and the characters are very interesting, it kept me wanting to read on till the end. However, there is one scene with towards the end that almost made me not want to read on... and I wish Emily got a whole bigger punishment. rating 💜💜💜💜 cover 💙💙💙💙 received from Xpresso Book Tours genre adult, paranormal, urban fantasy published September 22nd, 2020 by Ve

Chasing Ginger by Marie Lavender

Ginger doesn't fit in regular size clothing, and it's getting to her. When she sees an ad for a miracle pill that suppose to make her instantly attractive to the opposite sex, she jumps at the change.  And against all expectations, it works. She arranger a speed date, that ends up with her running from a group of men, that all want her, right into the arms of Lance. Lance is a successful businessman, who seems to instantly like her. But isn't the pill, or does he just like her for herself.  Ginger is a very complex character. She has so much to offer but constantly puts herself down, because of her size. Lance seems to be like a perfect match for her but filled with self-doubt and bad self-image, it's extremely difficult for her to accept that. The romance, it's slow to develop but incredibly sweet.  I really like the premise of the story and the storyline itself, but I wished the pace was a bit quicker. The story seems to move very slowly at times. While I liked Gi

Starvation by Molly Fennig

After I finished the book I was left with a jumble of emotions, I can't help but feel for the lead character. The story of Wes is told through two timelines, present, and past. The storytelling is brilliant. It gives the story a unique depth and contrast between before and after. Of how is it to live with anorexia, how hard to even want to get better, and on another side how easily is to slip from good to a bad place. The past tells a story of Wes, before. He was always living in a shadow of his older brother, who was champion wrestles, and who seem to have it all. He cares more about drawing buildings than wrestling. And then he meets Caila, who slowly intrudes him to extreme dieting. He worries about her, tries to help her, but it somehow backfires. On top of that, his brother dies. He falls deeper and deeper into anorexia. His is a gut-wrenching and heartbreaking journey. And then there is the present time, where we see Wes already very, very sick and not ready to get bette

Lion by Amber R. Duell & Candace Robinson

Image
Dark & Sexy The lion is a prequel to the Wizard of Oz retelling. It set after Dorothy left. The world looked a lot different after Dorothy left. Lion gained courage, but it seems like he lost all of his compassion. He is eager to serve Langwidere in her quest to rule the Oz and collect heads. I have to admit, I'm not the biggest fan of the original, but man, I love this retelling. It has all the stuff I like about a book, Faeries, romance, awesome setting & interesting characters. It's addictingly good and very dark, but I kind of like the romance between Lion and Landwidere, it all kinds of wrong and kind of sweet. :) The kind of book you can't stop reading and I look forward to the whole series. Highly recommend it!!! rating 💜💜💜💜💜 cover 💙💙💙💙💙 received from Author series Faeries of Oz #0.5 genre retelling, fantasy, romance published October 13th, 2020 number of pages 28 Amazon || Goodreads happy reading, anie Follow @anie_1027
