To Dream Is To Die by Sarah Lampkin

Image
Brenna is 18 and just started college, making friends and figuring stuff out. But being normal is difficult for her. Three years ago she almost dies and ever since every time her body falls asleep, her spirit enters Fade. However, entering Fade on college takes it to another lever and she soon figures out that there is more to this place than she ever could imagine. It makes a very useful power, especially for snooping. :) I love the concept, it's very unique and enjoyed reading the book very much. rating 💚💚💚💚 cover 💛💛 genre paranormal, na, romance, fantasy published January 8th, 2019 by Parliament House number of pages 296 Goodreads Amazon Happy reading, Anie @anie_1027

When the Whistler Calls by Carla Day

Image
This has got to be one of the creepiest stories, I've read this year. :) Rosie just lost her husband. He was her love and her rock. Her life is unraveling and she has only her best friends to lean on. As she starts to pick up the pieces, she discovers that her life, as well as her marriage, was filled with secrets. She is uncovering deception, after deception, from everyone around her- It's like her entire life was build on lies. The creepiest and the best part is the last chapter. I put an entirely new spin on the story and made me want to re-read it right away. :) The writing is so good, the way the author weaves the story together, stepping up the intensity and thrills till the very end, it's just brilliant. :) rating 💚💚💚💚 cover 💛💛💛💛💛 received from Silver Dagger Book Tours follow the tour   HERE   genre psychological suspense published August 1st, 2019 by Gator House Publishing number of pages 166 Goodreads Amazon

The Epiphany Club by Andrew Knighton

Image
If Steampunk and Indiana Jones had a baby:) The book is made ou out of five novellas, each describing a different adventure. I like the arrangement of the book, it made it very easy to jump in and out of the story.  The Epiphany Club is the most prestigious gentlemen's club and Dirk Dinamo works for it. He is a tracker, adventurer and all-around bad-ass. I loved his character, he is very fun to read about. However my favorite was the setting of the book, the world was very well developed and very interesting. rating 💚💚💚💚 cover 💛💛💛💛💛 received from Author genre steampunk, sci-fi, fantasy number of pages 498 published December 1st, 2018 Goodreads Amazon happy reading, anie   Follow @anie_1027

The Cruel Prince by Holly Black

Image
The Cruel Prince was on my TBR since it's release. I'm so very happy I read it because it has turned out to be one of my favorites. It's so addicting to read, I couldn't put the book down. And when I had to get away, because life..., I was a pain in the ass until I could go back. :) It reminded me a bit of a Poison Study (another favorite :)) not by plotline, but by the level of deceit and spying and political intrigue. Jade and  Taryn, her twin, their older sister Vivi and their parents lived somewhat peacefully until the day that the strange man came and killed the parents in front of kids. He tuned out to be Vivi's real father and took them all to live with him. Vivi remember vividly what happened and resents her father, acting out whenever she can. For Jade and Taryn, it's the only home they know and don't want to leave. Taryn wants to please the royals and is willing to submit their every whim. She is hoping to fall in love and get married.

Dream of Lake Drukka & Exhumation by Mike Thorn

Image
What happens when you dig too deep. She couldn't get over her mother's death. She dies by apparent suicide many years ago, but her death wayed heavily on her. After a particularly vivid dream, she asks her sister to accompany her to the Lake Drukka, when their mother dies. She hopes to get some answers. When they arrive they get a lot more than they hoped for. A man comes to the funeral of a relative. His only goal is to pay respects and leaves, but one cousin, who he has no memory of, keeps bugging him. They finally step out to talk, but instead of going away, they capture him. As he is taken the memories start to come back, finally putting the story together, moments before it's too late. Both stories very different, but very good in their own way. I was hooked right away. :) rating 💚💚💚💚💚 cover 💛💛 received from Author series Short Shark Shocks! #31 genre horror, short stories number of pages 48 published September 27th, 2019 by Dem

Hidden Scales by A. M. Robin

Image
Mira is an eleven-year-old girl, living with her mother. She is very independent and constantly gets into trouble. When danger approaches the town, her mother wants her to stay in, but that is hard for her to do. While wandering the town she picks up an object in the store and sets up a curse. Now she is on the run, but she is not alone. She and her best friend Peter find themselves on the run and that is just the start of a magical journey they embark on. Set in a high fantasy world, where magical creatures still live, Merrows were thought to be extinct.  Mira is such an interesting character, I love reading about her. She is strong and independent and very strong-willed. :) My favorite part is the setting and world-building. The scenery, the magical creatures and the storyline itself just jump off the pages. rating 💚💚💚💚 cover 💛💛💛💛💛 received from Author genre fantasy, mg number of pages 324 published September 1st, 2019 Goodreads Amazon happy

Two Thousand Lines by Michelle Jester

Image
It's the kind of story that breaks your heart a little when you read it. Also, the kind you have to read. Olivia lives in a Sugar Mill, she works at a vet place, hoping to take over, once she is done with school. She created a good life for herself. It was all OK, she was holding it together until Luke came to live in her town. His grandmother died and he moved in next door. Now he is making her feel things, she was sure she couldn't feel anymore. Her life is unraveling, but the only way to move forward is to accept the past. When the past is as hard and heartbreaking as is Olivia's that is not an easy thing to do. Olivia's mother died in a car accident when she was little and she gets to live with her step-father. he was extremely strick from the start when she started to grow up, the abuse changed with it. I love Olivia, her character has come such a long way in the story. Her childhood was incredibly difficult and somehow she survived she manage to make a life

The Pilgrim Stone by J. D. Bowens

Image
I was introduced to the fantasy world of Amarant by reading short stories collection Adventures in Amarant. I hooked then and couldn't wait to read more.  The Pilgrim Store ... is just more. More is at stake, adventures are bigger storyline is more addicting.  There is evil brewing in the Amarant. Evil Priestess is looking for the key to let in the evil and it's up to Consus and his brothers to find it first.  The writing is very good, the place, the characters, it all just jumps from the pages. I loved the setting, the world is very well developed, but my favorite thing was the brothers & their relationships.  rating 💚💚💚💚 cover 💛💛 received from Author series Adventure in Amarant Vol 1 genre high-fantasy published June 28th, 2019 number of pages 305 Goodreads Amazon happy reading, anie Follow @anie_1027

Advent by Cat Kydd

Image
On the outside, Andrew's life is perfect. He lives with his mother and a very rich stepfather. He has everything. In reality, his life is full of hardship. His stepfather is abusive, he is constantly bullied at school. And then he starts to see a mysterious girl with red hair everywhere. She offers him a new chance if he only goes with her. He jumps at the chance to escape, but what is waiting for him is a whole new world, filled with adventure. The writing style if full of dialogs, which is good, you get to know characters a bit more, but at some points in the story it kind of messes with the flow. I like the setting of the book and wished there was more of it...  rating 💚💚💚 cover 💛💛💛 received from Author genre fantasy number of pages 152 published May 14th, 2019 by Smashwords Goodreads Amazon happy reading, anie @anie_1027

Absence: Whispers and Shadows by J. B. Forsyth

Image
Delia and her uncle live in a small village. She has a bad leg and girls at school are constantly making fun of her. There is poison in her leg and she has to visit the Absence every day, in order to keep the poison from reaching her organs.  In this high fantasy world, there is membrane between the world of the living and world of the dead. It's thin and a few people that can cross it, like Della and her uncle. They can leave their bodies behind and fly around like ghosts, invisible to the ordinary people and stop aging. There is when the troubles, starts. One day she senses a strange creature in the absence and almost gets trapped by it. When escaping she takes something from her and her leg heal. But the creature is not done. She and her uncle have to run and hide, but he doesn't make it.  Now left alone she is not sure who she can trust. It's only the start of very complex story.  The story is set in a high fantasy world, which is very well developed and very in

Veiled by Desire by Candace Robinson

Tavarra lived under the sea, but never felt at home. She visited the beach often, dreaming of walking the Laith and living on land. Then she hears that she can change for one day, get legs and walk the land, but she has to return to the sea after one day or she will be cursed. The first night she spends with the guy she liked and the next day her sister shows her who he really is. They stay too long and in she transforms into a beast, with fangs and fur and claws and goes on a rampage. Since then some night she transforms into a beast. When she awakes she remembers nothing. Her days are filled with anger. She has one friend, a bat and she is my favorite character in the book. :) Rhona lives in a village. When she was younger she has met a boy outside of the village. They spend their days together, until the leader of the village took that away, along with her abilities. Now she and her friend from the village are forced to go on a dangerous mission to retrieve a dark prism, to save t

Breakup Boot Camp by Beth Merlin

Image
Uplifting and inspiring! Joanna Kitt is engaged to be married to a guy she loved since high school. The story starts with her very early training for the big day. But when she finds out that he cheated on her, her life falls apart. The lady at the wedding shop recommends Breakup Boot Camp. She throws herself into the program. But there is more to the story than just heartbreak. Joanna was not OK even before that happened and now is her chance to start to live again. The story is very character-driven, you get pulled in into her world and can't help but feel and cry and be happy with her. She goes through a whole lot of heartbreak and personal growth. As you are reading the storyline, her character gets more and more depth as the story progresses. It starts just as heartbreak and betrayal. As she goes to Breakup Book Camp and is forced to think, to feel, her past issues come fort. The story is not so black and white anymore, but all shades of grey. As she starts to take responsib

The Blue Devil by Quirah Casey

Image
It's one of those, it's not you, it's me kind of thing. :) The Blue Devil is feared by all, unbeatable, she gets the job done, no evidence, no mistakes. Until someone beats her. When strange things start to happen she has to join forces with the guy who beat her (and put multiple bullets into her) & uptight agent. I love the setting, the magic of it, the rich variety of characters & a very intense story. It's an interesting take on paranormal creatures. The mystery aspect intertwining perfectly with the intensity of the story. I'm a big fan of anything paranormal, so I liked that side of the book very much,. The world is well developed and characters are interesting. I wasn't the biggest fan of the main character, something about her that just didn't mesh with me. We had no chemistry. :) rating 💚💚💚 cover 💛💛💛 received from Author genre urban fantasy published February 28th, 2019 number of pages 244 Goodreads Amazo

Out of Control by Sagan Morrow

Image
The books keep on getting better with each one! Helen is very traditional, organizes and stubborn, she is convinced that her way is the right way ... always. She and Ben are living a happy married life. Exploring an open marriage went very well, they both have partners that they like, she is even up for a promotion at work. Until ... she hears Ben talking to his partner in the hallway & realizes that he fell for him. It shattered her world & she is furious, especially when Ben accuses her of the same thing. Feeling betrayed and broken she takes off.  After a lot of friends support & time, she comes to a realization. She isn't always right & sometimes it takes a big romantic gesture to make it all good again. :) The story ends with a bang ... the ending is just perfect for the story & I'm in love with this series.  Helen wasn't my favorite out of the three friends. In this book her characters go through hard times, she grows before our eyes into som

The Town That Feared Dusk by Calvin Demmer

Image
A short story with a huge impact. I'm at awe at how can full story be told, with so little pages. :)  Sylvia is working for a tabloid. When her boss dies, she goes through old stories, to find something... something that would make her career. In the old notes, she finds a suicide bridge, it's too interesting, not to explore. When she arrives at the town she is meet with the scared town, unwilling to talk much and more question that she can get answers for. The story pulled me in right away, the mystery of it, the creepy town and one reported trying to find answers. And the ending was just perfect. :) rating 💚💚💚💚💚 cover 💛💛💛 received from Author series Short Sharp Shocks! Calico Thunder Rides Again by T. A. Hernandez

Image
A story, unlike anything I've read before. The circus was Jake's father's whole life and while he loved it very much, he wasn't the best on the business side. When he dies his son took over. It took a lot of work to get Circus out of debt, and after years the finally made a little profit. It started to look better for them all. Until powerful mobster confronted Jake and demanded that the debt be repaid by the end of the month. It's a large sum, that Jake can't even imagine collecting. There is such a magic to the story, the performances, the magical creatures & the world the story was set in. The circus itself it's like a small world on its own, with interesting characters, creatures & dynamics between them. There is magic to the story, the animals, the performances, circus life.  I enjoyed reading it very, very much. :) rating 💚💚💚💚 cover 💛💛💛💛💛 received from Author genre fantasy, fiction published November 5th, 2019 b

She keeps thinking about it, so when she dices to explore and stumbles on to the club, Next morning she gets a job there and that is only the start of epic journey of discovering a whole new world and how exactly she fits into it. The mythology, the magic, the worlds, the creature,...it's all so good. The author created a very imaginative magical system and I just got lost into it. Loved every page and can't' wait for more. :) rating 💚💚💚💚 cover 💛 genre paranormal, vampires, demons, romance, fantasy series Sacrifice Me #1 published May 6th, 2014 by Dead River Books Goodreads Amazon Happy reading, Anie @anie_1027
