Reading Foiled I remembered why I used to love the genre. Lean characters Kate and Billy are best friends and neighbors living on an army base. Kate lives with her mother, who is her only family except for grandfather. Billy's father works for an army and brought home a few souvenirs from his latest job and gave it to him. Billy treasured the craps, not knowing they are actually from a aliens space ship, until agents turn up at his home, threatening his family and wanting to relocate them to Germany. Billy doesn't want to go away so he and Kate run away. The embark on a road trip, to run from Agents and warn her grandfather.  I love the setting of the book, especially th

See Me by Susan Hatler

Author Susan Hatler Title See Me Series Simply Supernatural #1 Genre paranormal, ghosts, ya, romance Number of pages 170 Published 2014 by Hatco Publishing Goodreads Amazon Rating 💚💚💚💚💚 Cover 💛💛💛 I loved reading See Me so so very much. I was hooked from the first page and couldn't stop reading until the end. It's such a good and addicting story. It's funny, it's cute and towards the end, I was crying my eyes out (the ending is perfect, btw). :) Amy and her friends are playing Ouigi board and they might have summoned an actual ghost. Now Amy, a junior in high school, can feel a presence, someone is next to her a lot. That kind of complicates things, when the most popular guy in school asks her out, of course, the ghost follows her. Sick of it, she confronts him. The only way he can talk to her is to possess her. She decides to help him, but the truth is very different from what they both believe. I loved it and highly recomme

The Far Sighted T. E. Mark

Image
Author T. E. Mark Title The Far Sighted Number of pages 265 Genre sci-fi, fantasy, short stories Published September 26th, 2018 Goodreads Amazon Rating 💚💚💚💚 Cover 💛💛💛💛 Received from Author I love reading long books and series with multiple books. That being said, I strangely loved reading short stories. It's not the format I reach for ofter (I think I've read maybe one, or two before The Far Sighted), however, I've to recognize that it is special in its own right.  The Far Sighted is a collection of five short stories, each very different, covering a wide range of topics, from brain manipulation to time travel and aliens. Each story it's special and they differ a lot from each other.  I liked the writing style, it has a very nice flow to it.  My favorite was the first one and the last one is the collection. Be Careful of What You Wish For, where a very wealthy and very successful man pays for his girlfriend to receive cutt

I love celebrating holidays, they bring a certain spice to the passing of the days. Valentine's day is a very special one - a celebration of love. It's the day we remember the people we love and what love is all about. Love is such a strange emotion. It sneaks up on you, unexpectedly when you least expected and shifts your world. When you fall in love (the real kind), it's not just surface change, it changes the fundamentals that makeup who you are. The way you look at things and the meaning you assign to everyday life. It makes you think about the way you live, you want to be better, do better. We want to love and be loved back, to belong to someone. And there are so many forms, that are so very different yet the same in it's the essence. It's one of those basic things we need, as much we need air to breathe, food to ear, we need to love, someone, something. Books are one of those loves for me. Here are some books with my favorite love stories (whether lov

Serenade by Heather McKenzie

Image
Author  Heather McKenzie   Title Serenade Series The Nightmusic Trilogy #1 Genre romance, ya Number of pages 346 Published April 17th, 2017 by Clean Teen Publishing Goodreads Amazon Rating 💚💚💚💚 Cover 💛💛💛💛 I didn't expect to like Serenade as much as I did. It took a while to get into the story, the start is a bit slow, but it gets a lot better as the story progresses. Kayla is essentially a prisoner in her own home. She lives in a castle, that is breathtaking, but her father is a real piece of work and keeps her constantly guarded and locked up. She and her bodyguard get into a relationship, but their union is kind of ... icky. She insists on running, it's her only freedom. On the race, she gets kidnapped. She is afraid and devastated. But being away from her fiance and father gives her clarity. For the first time in her life she is free, not locked up or manipulated and able to choose for herself. I really disliked her character at first and grown

Fated: Cinderella's Story by Kaylin Lee

Image
Author Kaylin Lee Title Fated: Cinderella's Story Series Destined #1 Genre fairytale retelling, ya, fantasy Number of pages 252 Published August 31st, 2017 Goodreads Amazon Rating 💚💚💚💚💚 Cover 💛💛 I'm a sucker for fairytale retellings. I loved reading fairy tales as a child and now I adore reading retellings of those stories. Fated is not your typical retelling. Elle worked in the family bakery and is essentially only one able to leave the house. Her father dies when she was five. She lives with stepmother and 2 stepsisters, who sought refuge in their home. While not officially a stepmother she raised her as her own. Because her family is in hiding she is the only one who can leave the place. Ella is very hardworking, she works hard for her family and busts her ass in the school so she might get a better chance in life. One day in school her class is attacked and her dreams crumble to the ground. Now matter how impossible the situation, she tried to

Favourite Fairytale Retellings

Image
One of my favorite kind of story to read is a retelling. Ever since I've read (and loved) Lunar Chronicles I'm sucked for them. Here are some of my favorites: Eye of the Beholder by Emily Allen West The retelling of the Beauty and the Beast, set in a modern world, full of action, mystery, and vigilanties :) Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer The series that made me fall back in love with fairytales. Perfect mix of fairytale & sci-fi, love each one in the series. :) Fated: Cinderella's Story by Kaylin Lee Badass cinderella & high fantasy & magic & pure awesomeness. Dragon Rose by Christine Pope Set in a fantasy world, this retelling is very close to the original one and so very good. :) The school for Good and Evil by Soman Chainani Such a fun take on fairytale characters - one of my favorites. What is your favourite retelling? Happy reading, Anie    Follow @anie_1027

Daughter of Fire by Jennifer R. Povey

Image
Author Jennifer R. Povey Title Daughter of Fire Genre urban fantasy, adventure Number of pages 237 Published  January 10th, 2019 by Aitune Press Goodreads Amazon Received from Author Rating 💚💚💚💚 Cover 💛💛 Laura comes from a wealthy family. She is in college and right before her break, police tell her that her biological mother was murdered. She knew she was adopted, so that wasn't such a huge deal, until there are people after her, because of who she is, more specifically whose daughter she is. :) She trains for a while, gets a lot better at fighting, but when she doesn't get any answers she ventures out on her own. There is lots of adventure and mythology and special abilities and action. :) I love the storyline, the adventure style of the story and Laura, she is really bad-ass and independent. My only complaint, I had trouble connecting with the writing style at times, there is a lot of explanation while it's necessary at times, sometimes it gets

Rescuing the Prince by Meghann McVey

Image
Author Meghann McVey Title Rescuing the Prince Genre high-fantasy, romance, magic, fairytale Number of pages 273 Published February 3rd, 2017 Received from Author Goodreads Amazon Rating 💚💚💚💚💚 Cover 💛💛💛 Every once in a while I stumble on a story I didn't know I needed until I read it. Sometimes the right book comes into your life at the right time. Such an empowering story. Rescuing the prince starts as cute contemporary and blows up into a high fantasy story with magic and kingdoms and war and it's oh so good. :) Leah and her boyfriend are dancing in the parade as the Cinderella and her prince until the dragon grabs him and takes him away. Leah doesn't stand still, she runs after him and gets transported into a whole different world with them.  She finds herself in the middle of a strange land, where she is mistaken for a missing princess. She agrees to stay for a while until she knows how to find Garry.  Not only she is a princess now, but
