A war has been brewing in the shadows.

Kaelyn Hamblin never felt particularly extraordinary, growing up in a strong Irish household in the heart of Boston for most of her young life. Her humdrum routine remained markedly unchanged for longer than she cared to remember; until that day. The day when a beautiful stranger drifted into her hole-in-the-wall bookshop and changed her life forever.

Tyrian knew from the moment he locked eyes on her that she was the one. His one. The singular being within all of time and space that was made for him and him alone. His world was not one of niceties and pretty things; bringing her into it would be dangerous. But he would protect her. He had to. After all, it was foretold.

Worlds collide, marking the beginning of the end to an age long battle warring between the forces of darkness and light in the universe. The fate of all rests on the shoulders of a lone druid and her band of human hunters to quell the rising tide of evil threatening to overtake everything and plunge the connected realms into eternal darkness.

“A Witty and Hot fantasy like no other.” -Stephanie Hansen, Metamorphosis Literary Agency President.

What I like the most about Blood Awakening was the magical system. They was supernatural creatures existence is explained (with different worlds, connected to ours with portal) and hunter, protecting us from supernaturals, keeping them in cheek, is very interesting and unique. I loved reading about it.

Story slowly develops, there is a lot of world building. Story really pops out of page and keep you on your toes.

Title Red Queen
Series Red Queen #1
Genre ya, dystopia, fantasy, romance
Number of pages 383

Re-reading Red Queen I remembered why I loved it so much in the first place. It's just such a good book.

The World is divided in Silver and Red. People with Silver blood have superpowers and they basically rule the world. Those with red blood, must work for them and obey their rules. They have very hard life, with little options. Most of them end up soldiers, fighting Silver's war.

Mare is trying to steal enough money to save her friend from army. She steal from a wrong guy, but instead of reporting her, he gets her job in the palace. On her first day she falls to her death, only to discover her powers.

Mare is red with power like Silver. It's unheard of, so the Queen tries to hide her in plain sight, making her a lost Silver.

I love the world created and the structure of it (Red/Silver), it very interesting to read. And the plot itself, with unexpected twists, superpowers and a lot of political intrigue. This is probably the only book, where I like the love triangle, it was just done right. :) And the villain... it's make the story great. :)

Highly recommend it!

Title Saving Me
Genre contemporary, romance
Published February 22nd 2018

I'm having really good reading year, every book I've read so far is better than the previous. Saving Me might just be my favourite contemporary book ever, definitely top 5. :)

Ally is living perfect life, on the outside. She is star of track team, one of the most popular girls in school with a lot of friends.

Reality is far from perfect. She lives in very controlling household. Everything is picked for her, her clothes, friends, training schedule, food she may or may not eat and training schedule. Down to every little aspect of her life. She has no say in anything. that kind of life could bring anyone to its knees. After she hurts her leg and can't run anymore, she decides to end it all.

There are people that come in you life and the right moment. And Sterling is one of those people for Ally. He helps her see, that life is worth living. Little by little she heals. She makes new friends, finds love and most importantly, she finds herself. With every problem facing her, she becomes stronger and life becomes worth living.

Saving me is not light romance, is the story that shakes you, touch your every emotion, the story that brakes your hearth and still makes you feel hopeful in the end.

It's very relatable and ... real. There are some very hard issues addressed, like suicide, racism, homophobia, teenage pregnancy, in a way that is very realistic, but still hopeful in a way.

And the writing is so beautiful. One of those books that everyone should red.

Highly recommend it!

Nine and a half years ago Olivia and Alexander feel in love during one summer. They were working together on charity gala, sparks flew and they ended up together in linen closet, each others first loves. After misunderstanding he runs away to Greece.

Now Olivia is renovating her BF Maria's grandmother's beach house. During the renovation she bumps into Alexander, who is know Maria's brother-in-law. He wants her back and will do what ever it takes to make her trust him.

I just wish there was a bit more, a bit more story and bit more about characters, I wanted to know them a bit more. However, it made me feel so much and cry... a lot. :) The best stories are the ones that touch some part of you, move you, make you feel the way characters do. And this was one of those stories.

I love the art work, its just so beautiful. The story on the other hand was a bit lacking. I wish there was more, more about Harmony, more about the guy, more  about her powers. Still, compelling enough to keep me wondering what will happen next.

Sworn to Transfer is second book in Courtlight series.

What she did for the Prince has backfired in a way, she is more than one kill list. The is something horrible going on in The Ameles Forest, people and other creatures are dying.

I have to say, I liked the first one a bit more. There was a lot more interaction with Sebastian, here there was very little. I loved their banter, but now it feels like the friendship is dissolving. The is a lot going on in the book, a lot happens and there is a lot left unanswered.

Death would have been easier, but the Siren wasn’t through with her.

Seventeen-year-old Maggie Trent fell out of a battle and into the Siren’s Realm, a land where secrets hide in the shadows and pleasure comes at a price Maggie is unwilling to pay.

The time for the Siren’s reckoning has come, sweeping away all she deems unworthy to live in her realm. Those without magic are hunted by the Siren. Those with magic are hunted by the Stricken. Fighting or hiding seem necessary to survive. But there is a different way.

Bertrand Wayland, unaging and unrelenting in his determination for Maggie to accept her fate, slips in and out through the stitches that bind the Siren’s Realm to other worlds, gaining magic and having glorious adventures. When Maggie follows Bertrand out of the Siren’s Realm, seeking an adventure of her own, she finds instead a world of magic on the eve of war. To save innocent lives Maggie risks her heart, her life, and her only chance of returning to the Siren’s Realm.

Maggie live on Earth, where not everyone has magic. In the middle of the battle she is fell into something and woke in a tent. She is convinced that she died, as she slowly discovers new world, she stumbled on. Instead of dyeing, she was pulled in Siren's Realm, where everything is controlled by the Siren and paid with magic. The magic goes from you, until you have nothing left.

Maggie lies about having magic and tries to survive without. She is determined to find a way back home, to her friends.

After talking with Bertrand, she figures out, that there is a way out and she decides to follow him on his adventure. They stumble on new world, full of magic and interesting people. They gain their trust and offer help in their war.

I love the world created and the story line. Pace is slow at first, after about half of the book, it runs much faster. The book wasn't gripping from the first page, it took some time, to pull me in.

I love the dynamic between Bertrand and Maggie. They have a bit of Sherlock Holmes/Watson or Eragon/Brom kind of relationship. :)

My favourite thing about the story was defiantly the magic, entire new take on parallel words and magical system.

I look forward to reading more about  Maggie's adventures.

Maybe Never is beautiful contemporary romance about two people, who have it really rough. Judd Jackson went from having it all. He was the most popular guy, with friends, hot girlfriend, and scholarship to college. After his father came out as transgender, he became the most bullied guy in the school. His mom turn to alcohol and he is left alone with his anger. Through all the bulling no one stood up for him, accept form .

Sunny is daughter of local drunk. Since her grana died, she lives alone in the trailer, working every day after school. She has an amazing hearth. When Judd ex-girlfriends is mean to him, she has to say something, no matter the consequences.

It seem that the whole world is against them. But all is not lost. There is such a beautiful message in the story. Even when all sees lost, when you are beaten down to pulp, the is light on the other end. When you are on the bottom, you can only rise.

I was pulled into the story and was crying by the end. The writing is very good. :)
All in all a lovely book, that will leave a lasting imprint :)

It's one of those stories, that stay with you. I love this one. First time I read it was just OK, I wanted to read it again and second time I fell in love :).

I love the setting of the story, the kingdoms, all the political intrigue. And I am big fan of interesting magic system, this book definitely has one. Some children are born with different colour eyes, those have special talent or magical power-grace. Katsa discovered her, when guy tried to touch her inappropriately and she killed him, at the age of 8. Since then she learned to control her Grace and was regularly used by her king (and uncle) to scare people into obeying him. In the way of defiance, she formed a council that operated apart from politics, in order to help people.

Katsa is incredibly strong and fiercely independent woman. I love her character. She grew up isolated because of her grace and has only few friends. We watch her grow up and develop as the story progresses.

Whilst on council business she comes across Po. He is a prince and can stand up to her in battle (something that none else could). They form a friendship, that grows into something more.

I love their bond, they bring the best in each other. And the story is really interesting, it keeps me glued to the pages, from first till last page. :)

Highly recommend it!

I didn't expect to like The Prince as much as I did. Once I started reading it, I couldn't put it down. I've read in little under two hours and I enjoyed every minute of it.

18 year old agent in training just received first mission, little before graduating. She is very excited and ready to go. She and her partner will pose as newly discovered brother and sister, to the recently deceased millionaire.

Her mission is to protect Prince of Montrovia from assassination and figure out who is behind it. She has to get close to a lot of people, to establish her cover, but she didn't expect to get close emotionally.

I loved read it, kind of like guilty pleasure book. :) I had feeling I was reading old fashion Bond movie, with a lot of action and romance. :) It would be amazing movie.

I almost DNF the book third way in. It was a bit different, than first two book and I had to take a break. I still came back to it, I wanted to know what happens next to Jacob :). The book picks up after first half and is back to awesomeness.

Jacob has to rescue Shiengols from August Fortress.

There is a lot changing in his life, Jacob grows up a lot in the story. His magical powers are developing and he has more on his plate every day.

There were some things I didn't like in it.

  • Like his family. They seem to have very good relationship, but I had a feeling all through the book, that a lot gets pushed on him. He is suppose to do a lot and be a lot, like he has to do everything himself and I kind of felt bad for him.
  • Also Aloren. What was that all about ? :)

Now to the things I loved:

  • The world, it's expanding and it's getting more and more interesting.
  • I also loved Jacob in this one. He is really becoming someone fit for a price and his powers are amazing. :)
  • Character development. We get to know more about... everyone. It helps to connect with the story and places they go, to care more about them.

Yelena is about to be executed for murder. Before she dies, she is taken to Commander's master spy. He offers her a second chance, to become Commander's food taster.

The training is demanding and possibly deadly. Valek (master spy) makes her taste almost every poison, so she will be able to taste it in food. One of the first ones is Butterfly's Dust, deadly poison, that leaves her unconscious for three days.

Her former "master" is out to kill her, because she murdered his son and Commander is acting strange. There are conspiracies happening left and right and sometimes she isn't sure who to trust.

I love the whole structure of the world and political intrigue. The story keeps you on your toes, nothing is what is seems and there are soo many twists and turns.

My favourite part are definitely characters, even the side or minor ones are flesh out and very vivid. Yelena is one of my favourite female character. She is very strong, very strong  and vulnerable at the same time, and definitely kick ass, what I love the most, that it's not all given to her, she has to work hard to be all that.

And Valek... he is master spy, always up to something, wickedly smart and really hot. :) I love his loyalty and the way he treats Yelena.

One of the best fantasy book out there. Highly recommend it!

I like the idea behind the story, it quite interesting. What I didn't like what execution. The was too much telling and too little showing. The story didn't pull me in or hold my attention. There were some flaws in the story itself...

The Black Masquerade is second book in Koven Chronicles (The Shade Amulet being the first one ). We follow Lizzy as she tries to figure out what Shade Amulet, what to do next and her complicated life.

Just as she thinks life will slow down, Angelo (the ghost) gives her just few days to return effigy back to where it came from. She is on really tight schedule to take it back. On top of all that Shade Amulet in not "talking" to her and helping her the way it should.

The story is very fast paced, there is non stop action and a lot going on. So I definitely wasn't bored, I read it in one sitting. However I kind of wished, it would slow down at times, give me a bit more depth to Lizzy and other characters, a bit more of the surrounding and story and bit more time to digest.

I felt bad at times for Lizzy. She is this amazing character, with great talent and strength, surrounded by guys who take it upon themselves to protect her, even when she doesn't want to. I was so angry at Chief and Cole few times, wanted to yell at the book: leave her the hell alone!! She is amazing and can take care of herself. :)

I like Abel a lot more. He is grumpy and rude at times, but I felt more respect from him toward her. They work together very well.

I liked first book more than second, but that is usually the case. :) I still can't wait to see what happens to Lizzy in third one.

Very entertaining and fast paced book. :)

New year of reading

As the new year stars and I see everyone talking about reading goals and book challenges, it just doesn't struck a chord with me.

It sound too much like a chore. Reading and talking about books is wonderful escape from ugly in the world, to run off in amazing worlds full of magic and power and love gives me hope. Hope that there is still something to look forward, something good left
So for the new year, I want to read... a lot. I want to fall in love with amazing characters and worlds. I want to read way less just OK books, those are the most discouraging. And, I want you finish the story I set out to write. It's time.

To you, I wish your year will be filled with amazing books and happiness.

Happy new year!
