Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson is 12 years old, has ADHD and dyslexia and has been in six schools in six years. Trouble always somehow finds him.

On a school trip to the museum, his math teacher turns into a monster and tries to kill him. His Latin teacher throws him a pen that turns into a sword, and he vaporises her.

Only later no one can remember the teacher or anything that happened there. Only Grover, his best friend seems to know something, but he is not talking.

He is happy to spend the summer with his mom, even if she still lives with his gross stepfather. On the way home he ditches Groover. He and his mother go to the beach, on their yearly vacation, for a few days, and Percy forgets to mention all of the craziness that happened lately.

Late at night, Grover comes to their door. There is a monster following them and they have no choice but to run, to the one place where Percy can be safe, the Half-blood camp.

They almost make it, before they are attacked. His mother disappears, Groovers gets knocked out and he barely wins.

Then things start to get really weird. Percy finds out about his father, that the Greek gods are still alive and that they blame him for Zeus's missing lightning bolt.

He goes on a quest to find it and clear his name, with Annabeth, daughter of Athena and Groover. On the trek across the country, they manage to get into loads of trouble, fight monsters and became friends for life.

There is adventure and loads of dangers, but also friendship, loyalty and bravery. With the story old Greek Myths came to life and fit perfectly into the modern world.

It's one of my all-time favourite books, ever! :)
