Angelfall by Susan Ee
review
No matter how many times I read it, it never gets old. It's one of those books that have a permanent place in my heart there is just something magical about Raffe and Penryn, and I love going back to that world.
The world has ended a few weeks ago when angels descendent on Earth. But there are not the nice ones. The Earth was ruined, people hiding in old buildings, scavenging for food, and trying to stay alive. Gangs are forming all over the place, using angel parts as a currency makes living all that more challenging.
Penryn is down earth, no-nonsense kind of a girl. She has to be. Her mother suffers from a mental illness, and she can't count on her, her little sister is in a wheelchair and need her, so it's up to her to find a place and food for them all. And she is far from helpless, she can fight, thanks to all the classes mother signed her up after her sister "accident", but it's still a big burden on a 17-year-old.
There are in the process of relocating when angels land not far from them, after the fight, her sister is taken, her mother is nowhere to be found. Penryn has to make a choice. She wants to find her sister, so she takes an angel that was just barely hurt as a kind of hostage. She wants him to tell her where they took her sister.
Raffe is not all that pleased with her but ends up helping her, so they set out on a trek to the eerie. But the journey is not without bumps on the road, from living in a human resistance camp to finding eaten up people, it's a thrilling tale.
If I read it once, of 500th times, I never can put it down, after I started. The writing just pulls me in and I'm always (re)hooked from the start.
The characters are charismatic and look alive and the storyline is intense and compelling. One of my all-time favorites, that I love to return back to all the time!
And Raffe, he is just the best. :) I wish there were more books in the series, it feels like there is room for more, more Raffe. :)
