Sisters of the Moon by Alexandrea Weis
The dark and spooky story, that I couldn't put down.
From the first page, I fell in love with the atmosphere of the story. Girls who were slaves, not worth anything, and abused in many ways, are brought to the mysterious island, where live nuns of The Sisters of St. Gertrude order. Durra soon finds her place there, but her two new friends have a harder time adjusting.
Durra soon discovers, when reading the books, that there is a lot more to the nuns than meet the eye, and that the entire island holds a secret.
I love the storytelling, it's monstrous and creepy, but just the right amount. The setting is very well set up and the characters are very interesting, it kept me wanting to read on till the end.
However, there is one scene with towards the end that almost made me not want to read on... and I wish Emily got a whole bigger punishment.

A monstrous fate will turn a girl into a legend.
On an island in Lake Obersee, where The Sisters of St. Gertrude abide, a destitute Moor named Durra arrives. Sold for taxes, she and her two companions tend to the nuns and their collection of cats. At night, she combs the library for details on the order, the remote island, and the beasts howling outside her window.
But when a prank reveals the sisters’ gruesome secret, Durra is forced to accept a new fate. Bestowed an unearthly power, she must choose between life as a nun or living among the monsters beyond the convent walls.
Her path is about to change the tide in the ultimate war. The war between good and evil.
