Favorites: Fairytale Retellings

Fairytale retellings are one of my all-time favorite genres. I love the way different authors put a different spin on well-known stories, taking them to whole another level. Something that stars with a little fairytale, end up a full-blown high fantasy story, or spooky horror one, or it takes you to a magical school in another realm. :)

Here are some of my recent and not so recent finds

Depravity by M. J. Haag
A lovely take on Beauty and the Best. The story is set in a high fantasy world. Benella spends her days finding food for her family and the best food always grows around Beast's Estate. One of the village boys, trows her at his estate and instead of killing her, he saves her.

It's a very dark take on Cinderella's story. It follows the main storyline, but it's a lot darker. :) With magic and witchcrafts & gruesome deaths.

It's very loosely based on Cinderella's story. But stepmother and her sisters are not evil, just traped, because they have magic in a world where magic is forbidden. She is extremely hard-working, with goal to be someone better. It's set a very interesting high-fantasy world.

What if there was a school that took two kids each year, one good and one evil and send them to the magical school, where they could learn. Good ones learn how to be pretty, bad ones learn how to be horrible. But it turns out that not all is so black and white.

What is your favorite fairytale retelling?

happy reading,
