Synopsis

“I shouldn’t have to tell you this isn’t a fairy story…” After her parents’ car crash ten years before, Amie Wentworth trusts books more than people. She may be a writer, but she believes in reality over fiction. She ignores the unexplained mysteries surrounding her, never mind the dreams of a past life, or the fact she can fry technology with a touch. Not even a timely invitation from her long-lost uncle in England gives Amie incentive for anything other than ire. Until she is stabbed in an alley and brought back to life by a handsome stranger. Soon Amie is dragged into the very sort of tale she is used to selling. To make matters worse, the man who saved her life keeps turning up and her would-be-murderer is still at large. After crossing the Atlantic to her father’s homeland, she discovers a world beyond imagining. Silver Hollow is a place of ancient traditions and supernatural dangers, where everything is the opposite of what it seems and few escape sane. Faced with an impossible choice, Amie is forced to confront a deadly family legacy while remembering a life she soon wishes to forget.
**Previously published in 2012. This NEW EDITION has been FULLY REVISED AND EXPANDED. The original novel is now no longer available.**
Excerpt

The hour before dawn found Amie pulling her car round the back alley. Through the gloom and decades-buried waste behind Pat’s Delights was a narrow strip leading to the back staircase leading up to her flat. The drive home had been a royal pain in the arse, thanks to her headache and glaring headlights.
The Brit’s face came unbidden to her as she gathered her things and moved her weary legs. Now that she knew him to be the stranger at her parent’s funeral ten years ago, she was convinced he knew something about Uncle Henry’s letters.
The faded yellowing parchment marked with heavy black ink, with words too absurd to be true, flashed in her mind. As she dug through her purse for her keys, she once again recalled how angry she had been ten years ago after reading his first note. So what the cops were uncertain how the accident had happened. So what her father had known some powerful people. Amie had been primped and pushed into the upper-class social sphere through her teens and knew how to handle that sort. She could take care of herself just like she always had. She would tear up the letters and the tickets tonight. The twins and James were her family now.
As she placed her shoe upon the first rickety metal step, two thick and powerful hands grabbed her from behind, pulling her deeper into the back alley. It happened so quickly she forgot to scream. Amie dropped her purse as her fingers dragged and slipped over the metal grating.
“Let go,” she begged, her voice weaker than she intended. His choking embrace only tightened.
She couldn’t breathe. Tears burned her eyes and she reared her head back sharply to knock against the psycho dragging her away. His grip slackened enough for her feet to touch the ground.
Damn it!” He growled deeply as he tore at her dress. He snatched her by the waist before she could take another step.
She cried out, only to feel her face being smashed against a brick wall. She gasped as the figure turned her around and pushed until the sharp stone dug into her shoulders painfully. Amie lifted her head only to come face-to-face with the black-masked figure.
He’s going to rape me, was her first horrifying thought. His brilliant blue eyes blazed into hers, filled with unmistakable purpose.
Too late she realized his true intentions as a sickeningly cool object was plunged into her chest and pulled quickly out again. Strange words came hissing past the man’s lips then, and for a moment his blue eyes glowed amber-red.
She grabbed at the hole in her chest, fingers brushing against her father’s amulet and blinked past tears. Amie’s vision swam, then blurred as she slumped against the trash-littered concrete. She lifted her hands from her chest to find them covered in red.
“Nimue!” A new cry echoed loudly against the brick walls. The voice was familiar and new at once.
Amie gasped and turned desperately to find a tall man standing beside her forgotten vehicle. He was broader in the shoulders than her murderer and wrought by shadow light, but she could not see his face.
Her murderer twisted around to face the mouth of the alley, knife gleaming crimson in his hand. Blood dripped from its point onto the filthy ground.
You’re too late, she thought as her dark knight cried her name again.
The two men exchanged brief, bitter words in a strange tongue she didn’t understand. Without warning, the tall man rushed her murderer with a hoarse cry and flash of crackling light.
She trembled as her mind began to slowly fade. The further she fell the less sense the scene before her made. She watched the tall man toss her attacker into the air over his shoulder and into the brick opposite her. A strange dark light flickered at the edge of her vision and crackling energy danced over the suddenly luminous alley. She saw these things, but her mind refused to believe them.
Time slowed as dark spots filled her vision, then rushed back to the present when a pair of warm hands cradled her in a firm embrace. He lifted her from the muck and fixed his dark eyes on her. Obsidian-cut eyes, familiar eyes, pierced through her and reached deeper.
“I knew it was you,” she whispered and choked on hot liquid at the back of her throat.
“Don’t try to talk.” His face, once so indiscernible it could be called plain, twisted as though in agony at her words. Even though she was slipping, falling into a calm quiet darkness, he refused to let her go. His hand moved from her neck to the gaping hole in her chest, then pressed down firmly.
She cried out as a shock went through her, as he clasped hold of something tearing deep inside of her. The black of his irises gave way to a strange mix of blue and green flecks gleaming in their depths. She saw…
Fields of brilliant emerald grass and a sun filled with more colors than she knew to name.
Darkness and a dirty cell, where heavy fists punctuated his pain.
Time beyond counting became a lifetime lost.
A green-eyed dark-haired beauty bathed in sunlight stretching out her hand to him.
Someone was screaming. Amie frowned as the woman’s cries grew louder. Pain spiked up in her chest as her lungs constricted and her heart was shredded, then reformed. The woman’s screams died when she took a breath and realized the voice was hers.
She blinked.
And then she was lying within the narrow strip between two brick buildings, alone.

Happy reading,
