I've re-read Angelfall ... like million times, and it gets better each time.
Angel have come on Earth and basically destroyed the life as we know it. In six week, there were only few people left, hiding away, from angel and street gangs that flourished. Biggest currency being angel parts.
Penryn is just trying to survive and keep her family together. She lives with her paranoid schizophrenic mother and wheelchair bound sister, so surviving is not all that easy. She is not helpless, though.
One day, as they are trying to relocate, they witness group of angels attacking another angel, barely overpowering him and cutting his wing off. In the aftermath, her sister is taken by one of them and her mother runs. Penryn is desperately wanting to save her sister, so she decided to save fallen angel in order to get some info out of him. He reluctantly agrees much later and they set of on a journey to the eerie, where angels reside.
Raffe is one my favourite male characters, he is sarcastic, strong and very powerful. I love the banter between them and shaky alliance they form.
Penryn is one of the strongest females in this genre. She isn't helpless on whiny. She takes charge of live and tries to make the best of it, not dwelling on the bad. One truly bad-ass heroin.
I love that the story doesn't have perfect ending (not everything is neatly wrapped), she is not not, chosen one, or special, doesn't have any special powers (none of those bad things, I love book with those elements :)). That is part of the charm. it's real and down to Earth and incredibly amazing.
I love reading it.:) One of those book, where if you read the first one, you just have to finish the series. :)
Highly recommend it!
