So supernatural beings (vampires, shapeshifters, ...) have came out few years ago and it wrecked havoc on people. Humans are no longer in charge and the world is a lot different, with shapeshifters and vampires fighting for power.

Aria works as a kind of vigilante for an agency. She has special powers too, but she hides them. She can control fire, she is not so much a supernatural being, as is the fire mere human evolution. That puts her peculiar position.

She was searching for a boy for two weeks and when she finally found him, it was too late. Boy's death make huge impact on her. She is determined to find who did it and is joint on the mission with Pack Hunter.

I like reading urban fantasy novel, what I enjoy mostly is the mixture of the creatures and their part in our world. I was missing that feeling a bit. Also, I wish the that there was more to the story, more about characters and more about setting. That being said, I still like reading it. :)

First one was OK, second was good and by the third one I’m in-love. It’s rarely that I finish a series, well it’s even rare that I go past first one, however this series has kept me glues to the pages.

Born by Earth is my favourite so far. :) I love the Irish setting and unique take on elemental powers. There were no breaks, when reading it. I’m not even sure if I blinked my eyes. :)

Georjayna has reluctantly agreed to spend Summer with her Aunt and adopted cousin. The vacation starts on a bad note. She and Jasher don’t get along and she spend most of her days alone, with no wi-fi. :) She slowly discovers secrets of the house and power tied to it. With secrets uncovering she gets closer to Jasher . I love the mystery solving part of the story, looking for clues, reading diaries, library visits. :)

I loved reading the book and it got me excited for the next one. :)

Highly recommend the series!

I was going through my kindle library and stumbled upon Born of Fire. I vague remember reading the first one and kind of liking it, but never continuing with the series.
One I stated reading it, I couldn't put it down till the last page. I love reading from Saxony point of view, she is so far my favourite. :)

She is leaving home for the summer in Venice where she will work as au pair to two little boys. The younger one grabs her attention immediately, with being so fragile and sick, she has to take special care to make sure he is OK. There is more to his condition that she was lead to believe and it will change her life forever.
Whilst in Venice she meets two Italian guys, who both take an interest to her. One of those with ties to the biggest crime family and other one is actually very sweet. :) It takes few chapters to see. :))

I love the intensity of the story and the power of fire. :) I just loved it. :)

Review

I enjoyed reading Goal Keeper a lot more than expected. It’s lovely and sweet story of soccer, college life and falling in love.

Luci got partial scholarship to Pearson University, she is new goalie and studies Graphic design. In order to keep her scholarships, she has to keep up her grades and play soccer. Her entire life is carefully planned out and she has no room for distractions.

Her captain issues new rule after loosing her boyfriend, that no player is to date or party with male soccer players. Ryan plays for the male time is finally free from controlling ex-girlfriend. He sets his eyes on Luci and nothing will stop him.

I love reading about collage life, it took me back in time :). I love how hardworking was Luci. One of my favourite characters was Erin, her roommate. I like reading about their friendship. And the romance... it's definitely swoon worthy. :)))
What bothered me, was constant presence of Vanessa, I wanted to kick her ass by the end of the book. :)

Lovely book, perfect for beach reading. :)

Synopsis

Under the watchful eye of the Mother Shrine, twelve-year-old Wisp ekes out a simple, but challenging life with Dad, foraging for food and losing herself in old books from the world that came before. She loves the Endless Forest ― except when the Tree Walkers come for her.

In ages past, the great rain of fire and ash destroyed the Earth, wiping out the ancients and everything they had made. Nature has reclaimed much since then, spreading out in a vast forest full of wonder and dread. Ever in fear of being taken away, she follows Dad’s rules without question while learning to survive off the land.

No longer a small child, she accompanies Dad on one of his treks, her first time more than a few steps away from the cabin. A day exploring with him is the happiest time of her life, but joy is short-lived.

A monster follows them home.

Safe in her Haven, she hides while Dad goes outside to confront the beast. She wakes alone the next morning, and waits. Alas, her hope of his return fades with the daylight. Desperate, she breaks his strictest rule and goes outside alone. Not far from the cabin, she discovers his rifle abandoned next to the monster’s strange footprints.

Afraid but determined, Wisp sets off on her own into the Endless Forest to find Dad ― before the Tree Walkers catch her.

Excerpt

Moonlight painted the landscape in a deep blue shade. The woods more than fifty yards in any direction had become a dense murk of nothingness. Wherever leaves fluttered in the moonlight, she cringed away, from the lurking Tree Walkers she expected. Wisp clung to Dad’s arm with both hands, her pale fingers all but glowing against his deep brown tan.
“It’s all right,” said Dad in a near whisper. “We don’t have far to go.”
She nodded. It hit her that acting like a little kid might cause him to leave her in the Haven next time he went out to hunt. Except for right now, the journey had been amazing and fun. Wisp straightened her posture and let go of his arm, attempting to appear brave. At least in the dark, he couldn’t see her wide eyes and shivering hands.
A rippling cascade of snapping echoed out of the forest, like a bear crushing an entire bundle of twigs at once.
Or a Tree Walker rising up from the ground.
She held back a startled yelp that echoed in her brain and snagged the pistol from the holster on Dad’s belt, clutching it in both hands. Within a second of her pointing it at the woods where the sound came from, Dad grasped her by the wrists and pushed the weapon down.
Wisp shifted her eyes to him, asking ‘why’ with a stare.
“You cannot kill the Tree Walkers with a bullet,” whispered Dad. “A gun will only make them angry… and the loudness will tell them where you are.”
“I understand.” She fidgeted her grip on the pistol. “It might not be one of them. What makes that noise?”
Dad let go of her and grabbed the front of his rifle, training it generally in that direction. “Sounded like a big person stepping on branches. Down.”
Wisp sank into a squat, staring at the forest. Her mind played evil games by making her think every shadow held a creature of living vines coming to take her away from Dad. Mother, please protect us.
Another crunch came from ahead and a little farther to the left. She shifted her facing toward it, but didn’t raise the pistol. Dad took a knee beside her, a little in front to shield her from arrows.
A chill wafted by on the early evening breeze. Leaves rustled overhead. Cricket song surrounded them and the rapid skittering of a squirrel zipped by overhead.

Her toes dug deep into the rain-damp soil. The pistol wobbled in her hands. She swallowed hard, trying to be brave, trying to show courage so Dad would take her on a hunt again. He would do anything to protect her, and he didn’t like seeing her frightened. If he thought going out scared her too much, he’d keep her safe in the Haven. She thought back to how nice it had been relaxing beside the stream, watching birds and eating fish with Dad. If every day could be like that, she’d be the happiest girl in the world.

Will she be able to cope with the allure of the texting prince, or will Sebastian be the real-life prince in Shelby's fairytale?

Review

It's one of those stories that stay with you, that speak directly to your heart and change you a bit. It's book about friendship and love but also about loss and coping with being only survivor.

Shelby was a cheerleader and had a twin brother who played basketball. One night after returning from a game, they got into horrible accident and only Shelby survived. Even she didn't came out unscratched, her leg amputated below the knee.

Road to recovery is long and when she is finally ready to go back to school, it gets very challenging. And then there is Sebastian, her brother's best friend and her biggest nemesis. They are always at each other throats, hilarity ensured. :) He is paying more and more attention to her. I love the dialogue between them, I was LOLing through the whole book. :) The best part of the book are the messages. Under the name Prince Charming someone is sending her cute messages (full of Disney princess references *swooning*).

It such a good story, I loved reading it, from the first till the last page. It's funny and swoony and just perfect. :)

Highly recommend it!

But when a freak accident forces her high school to be absorbed by the neighbouring town, Eve has to contend with a new group of guys who aren't used to having a woman on their team. And the new team's star pitcher, Jamie, has no interest in being ousted from his throne. He can't afford to give up his starting slot to a new pitcher—even worse, to a girl.

As the competition between Jamie and Eve starts to heat up, so does their attraction to each other. Can they keep their heads in the game, or will they end up getting played?

Review

I love this story so much… :)It’s one of those books that you can’t put down and I flew through it very fast.

Eve is very athletic and good at it. She is also extreme strong and independent, playing baseball with guys made her very tough. Because of fire in her school she had to move to another school and her team was combine with the team of that school. Incoming Jamie. He is star of the team and her direct competition. They butt head all the time. I love reading about the dynamic of their relationship. She is such a strong character, as strong as you get. And Jamie is player, but is also sensitive and sweet.

They are both very strong and stubborn. And the outcome is hilarious. But there is more than meets the eyes in bot of them, as the story progresses we learn about them, more and more. It’s not just a light story, it about life, friendship, love and finding balance. I just LOVED it … :) I re-read it almost right after I finished it… :)

But there’s more than the king and a village tied to Yardis and Ray. He finds friendship and more from a band of brothers who are part witch, dragon, and healer. With new alliances and new abilities, Ray wars with himself on playing it safe or risking it all to save the ones he loves.

Can Ray rise above his fragile disorder to become the hero for once in his life?

Review

Ray has already hard life, living with a disease like that is never easy. But he doesn't let it stop him for doing what is right for his friend.

One day his entire life changes, he find out that the parents he loves all his life aren't really his. His real dad is dying and wants to meet him. He sets out on journey full of mysteries, discovering who he is and where he came from.

I like the plot line and the story, but had hard time connecting to the story. It's not the books faults, it wasn't the right book for me, the chemistry wasn't there.

I absolutely loved the story. I just flew through it in few hours and I loved every page of it.

Megan gets in fight a lot, she gets very angry and just… has to fight. :) After she was suspended in school for yet another fight, she and her mother move in the middle of nowhere. Next day she is up to huge surprise, not only is she living there alone, there the town is little bit different and there is a reason she is there.

I love all the mythology and all the magical creature, it’s so fun to read how so many different creatures live together. (I wish that the book was longer, so there would be more interaction with other).

I love the friendships and romance, of course, it so sweet. :) Perfect mixture of magical school, creatures & action. :)

Highly recommend it to anyone who loves urban fantasy.

Synopsis

After suffering a rare illness, straight-A student Cara Scotto struggles to deal with lingering side effects. Refusing to admit she can’t handle the disruptions in her otherwise normal life, she tries to move on and heal.

Alexander DeMarsh is unhappy about returning to his small hometown for three weeks. He prefers living in the city, where he attends an elite boarding school far away from his overprotective parents. Sure, they have reason to worry about him. As a Generator, Alex’s body constantly manufactures supernatural energy that’s often difficult to control.

Over winter break, Alex runs into Cara and picks up on the powers they share. Soon, he realizes Cara is the only person in the world who has any chance of understanding him. But first, he needs to find a way to draw out her supernatural abilities without revealing too many secrets of his own.

Review

Fire and Ice bring together two polar opposites. Alexander DeMarsh is insanely rich and unhappy on break from school. He has special super power, producing energy. And Cara, who had mysterious illness, of witch she still feels effects. She instantly peeks his interest, but he doesn't tell her why right away. Her illness might be something very different.

I loved the first part of the book, slowly uncovering secrets with Cara. She is very good character. In the second part I had trouble connecting to the story.

I wish there was more about the power itself in the book, it's very intriguing concept.

Thais Fenwick was eleven-years-old when civilisation fell, devastated by a virus that killed off the majority of the world’s population. For seven years, Thais and her family lived in a community of survivors deep in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. But when her town is attacked by raiders, she and her blind sister are taken away to the East-Central Territory where she is destined to live the cruel and unjust kind of life her late mother warned her about.

Atticus Hunt is a troubled soldier in Lexington City who has spent the past seven years trying to conform to the vicious nature of men in a post-apocalyptic society. He knows that in order to survive, he must abandon his morals and his conscience and become like those he is surrounded by. But when he meets Thais, morals and conscience win out over conformity, and he risks his rank and his life to help her. They escape the city and set out together on a long and perilous journey to find safety in Shreveport, Louisiana.

Struggling to survive in a world without electricity, food, shelter, and clean water, Atticus and Thais shed their fear of growing too close, and they fall hopelessly in love. But can love survive in such dark times, or is it fated to die with them?

Review

I was intimidated at first by the size of the book, but as I kept reading, I just flew through it. The story is so horrible and heartbreaking and compelling at the same time, I didn't even notice the length, I just needed to see what happens in the end. :)

The world is broken. and two people find each other despite of that, in very unfortunate circumstances. I love the characters of Thais and Atticus, they are broken in their own way, with many faults. The more I read about them, more I was rooting for them.

The story is frightening, what makes the story extra scary is the “it could really happen” vibe. I love the pace of the story, it was slow and fast at the same time. :) Everything Under the Sun is bound to be classic-highly recommend it!

Excerpt

Once we were seated, my eyes searched his face. His body language made it clear he was nervous. He wanted to say something but appeared to be wrestling with himself about how to say it. My brain started to take me down the path of self-doubt. I worried I might have done something wrong, but then I gritted my teeth in annoyance. He wasn’t like that.

He reached out and replaced the mitten on my ice-cold hand. Taking both my hands in his, he gazed into my eyes. I felt a band of drummers beat in my chest as my nerves spiked. His piercing yet gentle eyes continued to scrutinize me. I paused for a second, with sudden understanding. Wait a minute. Was this what I thought it was?
“I’ve wanted to say this for a long time. I think you’re amazing. Never has a girl affected me like you do. From that day in the coffee shop, I knew I had to know more about you.”
All words abandoned me.
He liked me. He really liked me. The ballerina in my stomach danced her debut.
Suddenly, I was floating on a cloud, peering down at the young couple sitting on a bench on a winter day. Their hands were interlocked and . . .
“I really like you,” he said, recapturing my drifting mind with the exact words I wanted to say. “Like I’ve never liked a girl before. What I want to say is that I want to spend this year and many more together.”
“Together?” I said. I needed to be sure.
He laughed. Dropping his eyes, he began to scuff his sneakers on the snow-covered ground. “You’re going to make this difficult, aren’t you?” He shook his head. Lifting his eyes to hold my gaze, he asked, “Jewel Hart, will you be my girlfriend?”

For real? My body felt as if it had been pricked with tiny needles. It made me feel alive.
Please don’t wake me from this dream. He picked me. Of all the girls Kaiden could’ve had, I was the one he wanted.
